The only guide you’ll need to lose weight super-fast on keto
Do you like the keto diet, but have stopped losing weight?
Or possibly, you just want to lose weight even faster?
If so, in this article we’ll discuss the fastest way to lose weight on keto, & all of the methods I’ve personally used to boost my weight loss.
What Can I Eat on Keto?
Individuals who want to follow the keto diet are restricted to low-carbohydrate foods. The body utilizes fats to power itself on keto, so foods with a lot of starch, carbohydrates, and sugar are prohibited while on the keto diet. Sugar-sweetened products and beverages must also be excluded from your diet.
How much weight can you lose in a month if you follow these guidelines?
You can lose around 2 pounds per week on keto, if you limit your carbs to under 50 grams per day.
What Happens When I Eat Less Carbs?
When you severely restrict your intake of high-carb foods, the body exhausts all glucose in the blood and looks for other options. The body responds by using its own fat for fuel when it cannot find any more sugar sources.
When there are no carbohydrates in the bloodstream, the body begins to utilize the glucose stored in the liver.
When deprived of carbohydrates for a long time, the body begins to utilise fat as a source of energy. The hormone insulin controls the blood sugar level.
When you don’t eat carbs or sugar, insulin doesn’t get activated as much, leading to your body going into ketosis to use its own fats for fuel.
What Is Ketosis?
When there is a lack of glucose, the conversion of fats into ketones occurs, resulting in ketosis. During this stage, the human body becomes proficient at using fat for energy.
The keto diet or some intermittent fasting programs, for example, usually result in the onset of ketosis.
Although there is no set time frame for when ketosis occurs, it usually takes place when a person follows the keto diet or performs some intermittent fasting for a couple days.
How To Speed Up Weight Loss on Keto?
To speed up weight loss on keto, I recommend the following things:
- Fasting
- Avoid snacking
- Reduce calories
- Sleep more
- Quit alcohol
- Exercise more
- Watch out for your medications
That may seem like a lot at once, because it is. However, now I’ll break down how to perform each step so you can speed up your weight loss on keto.
1.) Fasting
Fasting is the best way to lose weight faster on keto. It helps you decrease your daily calorie consumption & reduces your insulin, all with relative ease. If you’re a beginner to fasting, I recommend starting 18/6 intermittent fasting to get used to it.
After losing around 20 pounds on keto, I stopped losing weight.
I wondered how I could break my plateau:
The answer was fasting.
I tried intermittent fasting, & it was pretty easy to do & it let me lose weight much faster.
After doing intermittent fasting for a while, I stopped losing weight again.
Then, I started OMAD (one meal a day) fasting until I lost some more weight. OMAD is just like it sounds, you just eat one meal a day. However, for some reason on OMAD, I was even more satiated then I was on intermittent fasting, likely because I reduced my insulin so much.
Then, after losing a bunch more weight on OMAD, I stopped losing weight again.
The final, most intense type of fasting I did to lose weight & improve my overall health was prolonged dry fasting. In prolonged dry fasting, you don’t drink any water or eat any food for the length of the fast, usually a couple days.
After doing some prolonged dry fasts, I finally reached my weight loss goal on keto.
Basically, in addition to keto, the best tool to speed up your weight loss progress is intermittent fasting.
2.) Avoid Snacking
Snacking on keto can be one of the main reasons your weight loss progress stalls. That’s because snacking not only increases your calorie intake without you noticing, it also dramatically raises your insulin.
That’s why it’s important to avoid snacking on keto.
If you do intermittent fasting, like the OMAD plan mentioned above, you won’t even be allowed to snack, so it removes most of the temptation.
3.) Reduce Calories
If you want to lose weight faster or keto, or break your keto weight loss plateau, it’s important to reduce calories.
If your goal on keto is to lose weight, it’s important to reduce your calories.
Even if you just want to lose weight faster, consistently tracking your daily calories & making sure it’s in a deficit can help you achieve that goal.
4.) Sleep More
Sleeping at least 10 hours a day can make you lose weight faster by allowing you to recover better.
Getting good quality & lengthy sleep is crucial for good recovery.
If you don’t get enough sleep, it can affect your leptin & ghrelin hormones causing you to gain weight.
Make sure to get at least 10 hours of sleep per day for optimum health & fat loss.
5.) Quit Alcohol
Quitting alcohol would not only improve your overall health, it would also help you to lose weight faster on keto.
Though alcohol is not a carb, it has 7 calories per gram, making it really easy to cause you to gain weight.
Though it can be hard to quit alcohol, it would definitely help you improve your overall quality of life.
6.) Exercise More
Exercising more often not only helps you gain muscle, but it also burns calories. But, the biggest benefit of exercising for the keto diet is that it reduces your appetite.
In addition to that, exercising more often has been shown to lead to many benefits, like reduced risk of heart disease, increased muscle mass, & improved mental health.
Though exercising is not needed to lose weight on the keto diet, it can definitely aid with your overall health & satiation.
7.) Watch Out for Your Medications
Many medications, like diabetes drugs, anti-depressants, & migraine meds can lead to increased weight gain. That’s why it’s important to try to get off of weight gaining medications if possible.
If you cannot get off of the medications, then just try doing a more intense version of keto so you can lose weight.
For example, do OMAD fasting daily & prolonged dry fasting weekly until you reach your goals on keto.
Conclusion
In conclusion, after doing the keto diet for some time, you may notice a plateau in weight loss. You may also just want to increase the speed at which you lose weight or get the benefits of ketosis. If so, then consider following some of the tips in this article like:
- Fasting
