Lazy Keto: What It Is and How To Get Started

There’s a growing movement towards a low-carb diet called keto.

Simply put, a ketogenic diet is any low-carb eating plan that produces ketones, which are compounds that your body uses for energy when glucose (sugar) is not available.

Ketosis has many health benefits, including weight loss, fighting chronic diseases such as high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes, and slowing or reversing some forms of epilepsy.

In addition, some studies have shown that the ketogenic diet can improve symptoms of acne and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS.)

However, it is essential to note that not everyone may achieve or maintain nutritional ketosis sustainably because, well, keto can be hard for beginners.

Therefore, we’re going to look at how anyone can adopt the lazy keto lifestyle and easily lose weight without restricting themselves.

What Is the Lazy Keto Diet?

The lazy keto diet is a high-fat, low-carb eating plan that allows you to eat more processed low-carb foods without gaining weight. The lazy keto diet is recommended for anyone who wants to enjoy keto and lose weight without much restriction.

Following a lazy keto diet, you can eat things you can’t eat on healthy keto, like dairy, sugar-free drinks, processed meats, etc. You’ll still be eating clean keto foods like grass-fed beef, bacon, and fatty cuts of poultry, but you’ll be less restricted on whether something is “clean” and more focused on whether it’s low in carbs.

You can enjoy healthy fats like olives, macadamia nuts, and avocados.

How Does the Lazy Keto Diet Work?

When you follow a lazy keto diet, since your fat consumption is so high and your carbs are so low, you still lose weight through ketosis, even if you’re eating more processed foods.

When you do keto, since your insulin levels are so low, you’ll tap into your own fat whenever you need energy instead of sugar.

So, you’ll lose weight really fast.

This means that you will lose weight faster and be less likely to experience the common side effects of dieting, low blood sugar, and fatigue.

Benefits of the Lazy Keto Lifestyle

1.) Lose Weight Easily

On lazy keto, you can enjoy more types of foods, like dairy, artificial sweeteners, and processed meats.

This allows you to lose weight through ketosis, so you won’t be tired or hungry like you’re on other diets.

2.) Improved Blood Sugar Control

When you consume a regular diet with a lot of sugar, you become insulin resistant. This means your body is constantly raising and dropping insulin, meaning you’ll either be full and energetic or hungry and tired.

On keto, you’ll always have your own fat to use as fuel, meaning you’ll always have a constant flow of energy and improved blood sugar control.

3.) Improved Skin Health

Eating keto has been shown to help solve acne, and many people have reported that their skin feels and looks better on the keto diet.

4.) Improved Immunity

When you consume less sugar, your immune system is boosted, and you don’t feed the harmful bacteria in your stomach, making you less likely to get sick.

Disadvantages of a Lazy Keto Diet

1.) Fewer Benefits Than Strict Keto

With lazy keto, since you’re eating more processed foods like artificial sweeteners, dairy, and processed meats, you will get slightly worse results than people who do strict keto.

That’s why I recommend starting out with lazy keto, and then, as you become more adapted to using fat as fuel, you can start reducing certain things from your diet, like dairy, artificial sweeteners, processed meats, etc.

2.) Early Fatigue

Many people feel fatigued after beginning keto. This is likely because your mitochondria haven’t adjusted to using fat as fuel, so you must give your body time to adjust.

It takes around six weeks for your mitochondria to go through an entire life cycle, so wait six weeks, and the fatigue will disappear.

If it doesn’t disappear, then it means that you have an electrolyte imbalance.

This happens because carbs hold water.

So, when you don’t eat carbs, you urinate more, so you lose more electrolytes.

To fix that issue, you should aim to add an extra 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt per day to your diet, either through food or with a shot of water.

Is the “Lazy Keto” Diet for You?

If you want to lose weight quickly and feel energized, there’s no better way to do it than by following a “lazy keto” diet. If you want to eat as many “lazy keto” foods as you want, like dairy, artificial sweeteners, and processed meats, but still lose weight by limiting your carb intake, then lazy keto is right for you.

Remember, there is no reason to feel deprived when following a keto diet. You can enjoy a variety of healthy foods, including sugar-free ice cream, low-carb bread, and low-carb pizza.

But, once you get used to a ketogenic diet, you should aim to eat fewer unhealthy foods, like artificial sweeteners, dairy, etc.
