Why Am I Not Losing Weight on Keto Anymore?

Weight scale of someone not losing weight on keto anymore.

When you first start keto, it’s amazing how many benefits you begin to notice almost immediately.

Your energy levels are more consistent.

You’re losing fat, giving your mood & appearance a notable boost.

Your appetite will subside quicker than it did before and your cravings for sweets generally decrease.

Within a matter of a few short weeks, most people feel so much better than they did beforehand because their bodies have begun eliminating the built-up toxins & fat that were making them sick.

However, in a couple of weeks, your weight loss will plateau, or you might find that your apparent success with losing weight steadily decreases over time.

This is because your body will get used to the same thing every day & will stop losing weight.

In this article, I’ll discuss exactly how to stop a weight-loss plateau on keto so you can keep losing weight.

Why Do Weight Loss Plateaus Happen?

Once your body has adjusted to this new diet, it will become accustomed to burning fat more efficiently and you’ll stop losing weight.

When you start seeing a weight loss plateau, it’s important to note that this is completely normal, and it’s nothing to be alarmed about.

The only way to get through this is to keep on pushing with different methods of weight loss.

What Is a Weight Loss Plateau on Keto?

When you first start eating keto, you lose weight very quickly because your body is not used to low carbs & instead burning your own fat.

As you continue to follow the diet, your body will adapt to burning fat more efficiently, so you might lose weight faster than you did at the beginning.

As time goes by and you continue to eat keto, your body will begin to burn fat more efficiently, but you might find that you still haven’t lost much weight.

This is because your body has adjusted to the diet, so you must do something to stress the body to lose weight.

Weight Loss Plateaus Are Normal

As time passes, and you continue to eat keto, your body gets used to burning fat and begins losing weight at a slower pace.

You’ll find that you won’t be losing as much weight as you were before.

This is completely normal and completely acceptable — you’re not doing anything wrong!

All you need to do is add an additional thing on top of just keto, like fasting, so your body starts losing weight again.

If you aren’t losing weight on keto anymore, add another thing on top of keto. For example, start doing OMAD (one meal a day,) start counting calories & make sure they’re enough for you to lose weight, & try extended dry fasts (2+ days.)

In addition to fasting, try cutting down on alcohol & sugary drinks.

Remember — alcohol & sugar are both calories that aren’t good for ketosis or your body.

These are empty calories that will make you gain weight. You can replace these with water or unsweetened tea.

Conclusion

When you first start keto, you’ll lose weight very quickly.

As time goes on, your body will get used to it & you’ll stop losing weight.

Eventually, you’ll see a weight loss plateau, and it is completely normal.

The only way to get out of this is to keep pushing yourself through fasting (OMAD & extended dry fasts.)

Keep at it, and eventually, you’ll break through the weight loss plateau and start seeing even better results than before!

If you’re interested in starting OMAD to break your weight loss plateau, I recommend reading this article about whether OMAD is right for you & how to start it.
